Today was a slow start. We ate breakfast and headed to the bus. Before we left Quito, we had to stop at a doctor for Hunter, who hadn't been feeling well for a while. So we hung out in the bus while he got fixed up. Then we were on our way. The main goal of today was to get to Mindo, a city located in the cloud forest outside of Quito.
But first, we stopped at Mitad del Mundo- the real equator. The French went on an expedition to find the equator, but their calculations were actually wrong. Mitad del Mundo is the location, figured out by natives, that is really the equator. Here, you can see how the northern and southern hemispheres affect physics. You can even see what a typical home would've looked like several hundred years ago. We even got a stamp on our passports that said we'd been to the equator. It was definitely a cool place.
Since we'd gotten a late start today, we had to leave Mitad del Mundo and continued driving. Our next stop was the Sachatamia Lodge in Mindo. Here, in the cloud forest, it rained almost all the time as you might imagine. We put or bags in our rooms. I ventured back to the lobby with Greg where we sat on the porch and watched hundreds of hummingbirds before lunch. We ate a late lunch and then had a brief meeting together, and then it was time for dinner.
After dinner, we went upstairs to see the last presentation. Laurel and Victoria were talking about economics in the treadmill of production. After that, we all headed back to our rooms to get some rest. It would be our last full day here.
